Top Dead Center (TDC) for number one piston — locating
1. Remove the spark plugs (see Tune-up and routine maintenance)and install a compression gauge in the number one cylinder. Turn the crankshaft clockwise with a socket and breaker bar.
2. When the piston approaches TDC, compression will be noted on the compression gauge. Continue turning the crankshaft until the notch with the white mark in the crankshaft pulley is aligned with the TDC mark onthe timing chain cover. At this point, number one cylinder is at TDC on the compression stroke.
3. After the number one piston has beenpositioned at TDC on the compression stroke, TDC for any of the remaining pistons can be located by turning the crankshaft clockwise, 180-degrees at a time, and following the firing order.
