Fuel pressure regulator — replacement

Warning: Gasoline is extremely flammable, so take extra precautions when you work on any part of the fuel system. See the Fuel system warnings in Fuel and exhaust systems.

1. Relieve the system fuel pressure (see Fuel pressure relief procedure), then remove the fuel filler neck cap to relieve any pressure inside the fuel tank.

2. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal (see Engine electrical systems).

3. Remove the fuel pump/fuel gauge sending unit module from the fuel tank (see Fuel pump/fuel gauge sending unit module — removal and installation) and place it on a clean workbench.

4. The fuel pressure regulator is located under the fuel pump/fuel gauge sending unit assembly reservoir. Place the fuel pump/fuel gauge sending unit assembly upside-down on a suitable working surface and carefully remove the reservoir by disconnecting the fuel level sending unit connector and removing the two fasteners attaching the reservoir to the upper part of the fuel pump/fuel gauge sending unit assembly.

5. Unsnap the bracket holding the fuel pressure regulator to the fuel pump/fuel gauge sending unit assembly.

6. Remove the fuel pressure regulator and ring.

7. Remove the old pressure regulator 0. -rings and discard them. Be sure to use new 0-rings when you install the pressure regulator (regardless of whether you’re installing the old regulator or a new unit).

8. Installation is the reverse of removal.
