Balljoints — replacement

1. Loosen the wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jack stands. Remove the wheel.

2. Remove the fasteners and separate the ball joint from the control arm (see Control arm (front) — removal and installation).

3. Remove the lock pin and loosen the ball joint stud nut a few turns, but don’t remove it (see illustration).

4. Use a ball joint separator to break the ball joint loose from the steering knuckle (see illustration).

5. Remove the nut and detach the ball joint from the steering knuckle.

6. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Be sure to tighten the fasteners to the torque values listed in this Chapter’s Specifications, then install the lock pin.

7. Install the wheel and lug nuts, then lower the vehicle and tighten the lug nuts to the torque listed in the Tune-up and routine maintenance Specifications.
