License plate trim panel

Civic and CR-V sedan and coupe models

1. On models with the trunk liner trim package, remove the trunk lid inner trim panel. It is held on with pressure clips. Pull the center of the grommet up, then remove the grommet. Pull the panel straight off while applying pressure to the edges.

2. From inside the trunk, remove the single bolt securing the trim to the trunk lid.

3. From the outside, using a flat bladed trim tool and something to protect the paint finish, pry the pressure clips loose.

Note: If the clips appear to be damaged, replace them.

4. Remove the license plate trim.

5. Installation is the reverse of removal.

6. Remove the tailgate inner trim panels (see Tailgate replacement, alignment and support struts — removal and instalation).

7. Remove the two bolts securing the license plate trim to the tailgate. The bolts are located on the far edge of the license plate trim.

8. Working from the outside of the tailgate, spray a solution of soapy water along the bottom edge of the license plate trim.

9. Using a utility knife and something to protect the paint finish, slide the utility knife along the lower edge of the license plate trim to separate the double-sided tape.

10. On the upper edge of the license plate trim, remove the grommet clips. Pull the center section up, then pry the remaining grommet out of the license plate trim.

11. Remove the license plate trim.

12. To reinstall, clean off the old double-sided tape and replace with new tape. Check the condition of all the grommet clips. If any are damaged replace them.

13. The remainder of the installation is the reverse of removal.
