Instrument cluster — removal and installation

Warning: All models covered by this manual are equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), more commonly known as airbags. Always disable the airbag system before working in the vicinity of any airbag system component to avoid the possibility of accidental deployment of the airbag, which could cause personal injury (see Airbag system — general information).

1. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal and wait at least three minutes before proceeding (see Engine electrical systems).

Warning: Replacing the instrument cluster requires the use of the factory scanner to store the information retained in the old cluster and then download it into the replacement cluster.

Civic

2. Remove the driver’s side lower trim (knee bolster) (see Body).

3. Remove the instrument cluster assembly trim panels (see Body).

4. Remove the screws retaining the instrument cluster to the dash (see illustrations).

5. Disconnect the electrical connectors and remove the cluster.

6. Installation is the reverse of removal.

7. Reconnect the cable to the negative battery terminal (see Engine electrical systems).

CR-V

8. Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait at least three minutes before proceeding.

9. Carefully pry the instrument cluster blind trim panel off (on top side of the steering wheel covers).

10. Using a flat bladed trim tool carefully pry the instrument cluster trim off.

11. Remove the three screws retaining the instrument cluster to the dash.

12. Disconnect the electrical connections and remove the cluster.

13. Installation is the reverse of removal. Reconnect the negative battery terminal (see Engine electrical systems).
