Clutch pedal adjustment

Pedal height

1. The height of the clutch pedal is the distance the pedal sits off the floor with the carpet pulled back (see illustration). If the pedal height is not within the specified range, it must be adjusted.

2. To adjust the clutch pedal, loosen the locknut on the clutch start switch or adjusting bolt and back the switch out until it no longer touches the pedal, then loosen the locknut on the clutch pushrod. Turn the pushrod to adjust the pedal height, then tighten the locknut.

3. Turn the switch or bolt clockwise until it just contacts the pedal arm, then turn it in an

additional 3/4 to 1 turn. Tighten the locknut.

4. Adjust the clutch start switch as described in Clutch start switch — replacement.

Pedal free play

5. The free play is the pedal slack, or the distance the pedal can be depressed before it begins to have any effect on the clutch system (see illustration). If the pedal free play is not within the specified range, it must be adjusted.

6. To adjust the pedal free play, loosen the locknut on the clutch pushrod. Then back off the pushrod to adjust the pedal free play to the specified range and retighten the locknut.

7. Check and, if necessary, adjust the clutch start switch (see Clutch start switch — replacement).
