Clutch release cylinder — removal and installation

Removal

1. Remove the intake air ducts and air filter housing (see Fuel and exhaust systems).

2. On models so equipped, remove the hydraulic line bracket mounting bolt and bracket.

3. Use a flare nut wrench to disconnect the hydraulic line from the release cylinder. Have a small can and rags handy — some fluid will be spilled as the line is removed. Plug the line to prevent excessive fluid loss.

4. Remove the cylinder mounting bolts and remove the cylinder.

Installation

5. Install the hydraulic line to the release cylinder. Use a second wrench to hold the connection fitting and tighten the flare nut.

6. Lightly lubricate the release cylinder pushrod and the release fork pocket with high temperature grease. Install but do not tighten the release cylinder onto the clutch housing. Make sure the pushrod is seated in the release fork pocket, then tighten the mounting bolts to the torque listed in this Chapter’s Specifications.

7. The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal, noting the following points:

  1. ) Fill the clutch master cylinder with brake fluid conforming to DOT 3 specifications.
  2. ) Bleed the system as described in Clutch hydraulic system — bleeding
