Driveshaft (4WD CR-V models) — removal and installation
1. Raise the rear of the vehicle and support it securely on jack stands. Block the front wheels to prevent the vehicle from rolling. Place the transaxle in Neutral with the parking brake off.
2. Remove the bolts and clips from the front underfloor splash shield and remove the shield. Do the same for the left middle underfloor splash shield.
3. Make reference marks on the driveshaft flanges, the differential pinion flange and the transfer case pinion flange in line with each other (see illustration). This is to make sure the driveshaft is installed in the same position to preserve the balance.
i.3 Mark the relationship of the driveshaft to the differential pinion flange and the transfer case flange
4. Remove the rear universal joint bolts. Turn the driveshaft (or wheels) as necessary to bring the bolts into the most accessible
position. Insert a screwdriver into the joint while loosening the bolts to prevent the shaft from turning (see illustration).
i.4 Immobilize the driveshaft by placing a screwdriver into the universal joint while loosening the bolts
5. Unbolt the driveshaft safety loops from the floor pan (see illustration).
i.5 Remove the driveshaft safety loops
6. Unbolt the center support bearing from the floor pan (see illustration).
i.6 The driveshaft center support bearing is retained by two bolts
7. Unbolt the front of the driveshaft from the transfer case flange and remove the driveshaft assembly.
8. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Be sure to align the marks on the flanges and tighten all fasteners to the torque values listed in this Chapter’s Specifications.
