Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor — replacement

Note: After replacing the CKP, perform the CKP sensor relearn procedure. The CKP sensor learn procedure must be performed by a qualified technician, using specialized equipment.

Civic 1.8L engines

1. Raise the front of the vehicle and place

it securely on jack stands. Remove the splash shield.

2. The CKP sensor is located on the firewall

side of the engine block, near the transaxle, under a heat shield (see illustration).

i.2 Locate the CKP sensor behind the heatshield (Civic 1.8L models)

3. Remove the lower bolt and loosen thetop bolt for the CKP sensor heat shield and remove the heat shield.

4. Disconnect the CKP sensor electricalconnector (see illustration).

i.4 Disconnect the CKP connector andremove the bolt to remove the sensor (Civic 1.8L models)

5. Remove the CKP sensor mounting boltand remove the CKP sensor.

6. Installation is the reverse of removal. Besure to use a new 0-ring on the sensor, tighten the CMP sensor mounting bolt securely and perform the CKP learn procedure.

Civic 2.4L engines and 2014 and earlier CR-V models

7. Raise the front of the vehicle and place itsecurely on jack stands.

8. Remove the splash shield.

9. Disconnect the CKP sensor electricalconnector, located on the side of the engine block, near the oil filter.

10. Remove the CKP sensor mounting bolt and remove the CKP sensor.

11. Installation is the reverse of removal. Besure to use a new 0-ring on the sensor, tighten the CMP sensor mounting bolt securely and perform the CKP learn procedure.

2015 and later CR-V models

12. Raise the front of the vehicle and place it securely on jack stands.

13. Remove the front floor undercover under the passenger floorboard.

14. The CKP sensor is located on the side of the engine block, near the exhaust pipe, under a heat shield.

15. Remove the rear bolt and loosen the front bolt for the CKP sensor heat shield and remove the heat shield.

16. Disconnect the CKP sensor electrical connector.

17. Remove the CKP sensor mounting bolt and remove the CKP sensor.

18. Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure to use a new 0-ring on the sensor, tighten the CMP sensor mounting bolt securely and perform the CKP learn procedure.
