Input shaft (mainshaft) speed sensor — replacement

Note: 2015 and later CR-V models do not have an input shaft (main shaft) speed sensor.

1. Locate the input shaft (main shaft) speed sensor (see illustration) on the top of the transaxle on Civics, or on the backside of the transaxle on 2014 and earlier CR-V models.

i.1 On Civic models, the input shaft (main shaft) speed sensor is located on the top of the transaxle (Civic 1.8L CVT shown)

2. Remove the air filter housing (see Fuel and exhaust systems). For additional room, you may want to remove the battery and battery tray (if necessary).

3. Disconnect the electrical connector from the input shaft speed sensor.

4. Remove the input shaft speed sensor mounting bolt and remove the sensor.

5. Remove and discard the sensor 0-ring.

6. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Be sure to use a new 0-ring and, if you’re installing the sensor on an SLXA transaxle, make sure you install the special spacer washer, then tighten the sensor mounting bolt securely.
