Throttle body — removal and installation

Warning: Wait until the engine is completely cool before beginning this procedure.

1. Remove the air intake duct (see Air filter housing — removal and installation).

Note: On some models it may be necessary to remove the air filter housing (see Air filter housing — removal and installation).

2. Disconnect all electrical connectors from the throttle body (see illustration).

3. Clamp off the two coolant bypass hoses to the throttle body, then disconnect them. Be prepared for a little coolant spillage. Plug the ends of the hoses.

4. If equipped, disconnect the vacuum hose and remove the harness clip from the throttle body.

5. Remove the throttle body mounting bolts and/or nuts and remove the throttle body.

6. Remove the old throttle body gasket O-ring from the intake manifold and discard it.

7. Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure to use a new gasket and tighten the throttle body mounting bolts and nuts to the torque listed in this Chapter’s Specifications.

8. Check the coolant level and top it up if necessary (see Tune-up and routine maintenance).

9. Perform the PCM idle learn procedure (see Engine electrical systems).

10. Start the engine and check for vacuum and coolant leaks.
