1. Vehicles covered by this manual are equipped with either a five- or six-speed manual transaxle, a four- or five-speed automatic transaxle, or a Continuously Variable Transaxle (CVT).

Service procedures for the four- and five-speed automatic transaxle, and Continuously Variable Transaxle (CVT) can be found in Chapter Automatic transaxle. You’ll also find certain procedures common to both transaxles — such as oil seal replacement — in this Chapter.
3. Depending on the expense involved in having a transaxle overhauled, it might be a better idea to consider replacing it with either a new or rebuilt unit. Your local dealer or transaxle shop should be able to supply information concerning cost, availability and exchange policy. Regardless of how you decide to remedy a transaxle problem, you can still save a lot of money by removing and installing the unit yourself.
